Friends for life

“So no one told you life was gonna be this way. Your jobs a joke, you’re broke, your love life’s DOA.”

This song always brings fond memories to my mind. All the time. A show which was though before my time, couldn’t stop from leaving a huge mark in my life. These six friends have given me a true taste of what friendship is all about. Not helping your best friends up when they fall, but falling on top of them and calling them stupid. The six friends are…

Rachel Karen Green

Rachel Karen Green is a spoiled but warm-hearted girl. She leaves her fiancé, Barry, at the altar, and attempts to live independently without financial support from her parents. Rachel’s first job is as a waitress at Central Perk coffee house. She later begins to work in fashion, becoming an assistant buyer, and later a personal shopper, at Bloomingdale’s. She eventually becomes a buyer at Polo Ralph Lauren. Her life revolves around her relationship with Ross Geller. During Monica’s and Chandler’s wedding, it is revealed that Rachel is pregnant from a one-night stand with Ross. Initially, Rachel is determined to raise her baby Emma on her own.

Rachel is finally offered a job with Louis Vuitton in Paris. She accepts and prepares to move herself and Emma to France. However, she declines the job offer and famously “gets off the plane”. Rachel and Ross get back together in the final moments of the series.

Monica E. Geller-Bing

Monica E. Geller-Bing is the younger sister of Ross and best friend of Rachel. She works primarily as a chef at a variety of restaurants. She is described as the mother hen of the group, and is known for her obsessive-compulsive and competitive nature. Monica is often jokingly teased by the others, especially Ross, for having been extremely overweight as a child.

Monica falls for her father friend, Richard Burke. But ultimately the break up and then after a long time she unexpectedly begins a relationship with her long time friend, Chandler Bing, during her brother Ross’ wedding to Emily Waltham. After their marriage, they adopt new-born twins, whom they name Erica and Jack.

Phoebe Buffay-Hannigan

Phoebe Buffay-Hannigan is an odd, ditzy albeit sweet-natured masseuse who grew up homeless, sometimes telling her friends outlandish tales of life on the street. She is an aspiring musician who plays the guitar and sings songs with somewhat unusual lyrics at the coffee shop. She has an identical twin sister, Ursula who is just as odd as Phoebe. After a series of dates and relationships with a number of men, Phoebe meets Mike Hannigan whom she eventually marries. She also became a surrogate mother for her half-brother Frank Jr.giving birth to his triplets.

Joseph Francis “Joey” Tribbiani Jr.

Joseph Francis “Joey” Tribbiani Jr. is a good-natured but not-so-bright struggling actor and food lover, who becomes mildly famous for his role as Dr. Drake Ramoray on a fictionalized version of Days of Our Lives. Joey is a womanizer, with many girlfriends often using his catchphrase pick-up line “How you doin’?” He eventually develops a crush on Rachel.

Chandler Muriel Bing

Chandler Muriel Bing is an executive in statistical analysis and data reconfiguration for a large multi-national corporation. He later quits his job and becomes a junior copywriter at an advertising agency.

style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;">Chandler is known for his sarcastic sense of humour. He often mocks Joey for the latter’s stupidity. Chandler is often depicted as being somewhat of a hapless individual, suffering a lot of bad luck while struggling through life and occasionally struggling with an on-and-off smoking addiction. However, he eventually falls in deep mutual love with Monica and proposes to her with the two of them marrying.

Dr. Ross Eustace Geller

Dr. Ross Eustace Geller, Ph.D. is a palaeontologist at a museum of prehistory, and later a professor of palaeontology at New York University. The most intelligent of the six main characters, but at the same time a clumsy, quirky man, Ross is known for being a smart, know-it-all who prides himself on his rationality, despite his clear hopeless romanticism. He is shown to be the most caring of all the six members in the various instances on the show.

Ross is Monica’s older brother, Chandler’s college roommate, and Rachel’s on-again, off-again boyfriend. His first marriage has already failed by the time the show begins, with his second lasting mere weeks. He also drunkenly married Rachel in Las Vegas, but the marriage is annulled. Ross’s relationship with Rachel is a major storyline throughout the series. He is also the father of his ex-wife Carol’s son, Ben, and Rachel’s daughter, Emma. Ross and Rachel finally reconcile, deciding to be together once and for all.

The whole series on ten seasons will make you laugh every second. So much laughter and fun that when it would end, it would leave you crying, weeping and broken. That is the impact it can create. There story revolves in New York city and an iconic coffee shop called Central Perk.

Characters like Paul, Richard Tom, Ben, Susan, Carol and of course Gunther and including a lot of more have played an important and extremely necessary role in making the whole show have it’s name in the. Guinness book of world records for the most number of times watched TV show.

The characters of f.r.i.e.n.d.s teach us so much more than just being hilarious. Rachel teaches us that we all can work hard and stand on our own feet. In being the master of our own destiny and run while you can.

Monica teaches us to overcome our own weaknesses by facing them. Being responsible, caring and what a mother is like. Chandler knows what it is like having a hard childhood and coping with it. Being funny, charming and witty. Phoebe taught us being silly and weird and different can be so charming and we can always achieve what we truly love. Ross told us to never give up hope and believe in what you love and fate will be in our favour and Joey taught us how to let go of the person you love and the true meaning of being there for each and every friend.

Friends for life. Please laugh and watch. Won’t be able to stop till you finish all the episodes.
